During Monday night's school board meeting, FISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna requested the district recognize the Forney High School Marching Band for competing in the state UIL competition for their fifth time.
Addressing the school board members, Director Luna stated “We want to recognize the Forney High Marching Band for going to the state marching contest for the 5th time since 2009. The band has competed five times. When I spoke to UIL they told me that there are only 253 5A schools that have stayed 5A schools because they always go back and forth.
And outside of Forney High School there have only been three other schools that have gone to state the last five times.”
Director Luna said “State marching contest happen every other year, maybe they think it’s too expensive, I don’t know but 5A schools are every other year with 6A schools between them. I’d also like to note that at the area marching contest North Forney High they finished 6th, they tied for 6th, and they only took five to state so I think we might be having a different conversation in two years when North Forney is up there too.”
Graciously accepted the accolades, FHS Marching Band Director Mark Poole stated “Thank you for the recognition. It is an honor to be here. We are very proud of our Forney High School band kiddos, this being in the top three of four groups that can do that. We’re very proud of how they did. They performed outstanding and represented our community very well.”
