In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Forney Mayor Rick Wilson recently presented an official proclamation to Kaufman County Peace Project Director, Felecia Stewart.
After being invited to inform the Council about the services provided by the non-profit organization, Director Stewart stated ‘We’re a sexual assault and domestic violence crisis center and shelter. We have two shelters. We’re located in and cover Henderson County, as well as Kaufman County.”
Stewart said “We also have a female fitness studio that has opened up, it’s called Curve Appeal. And it’s opened up in our Terrell location so that we can provide not only for the mind but also for the body and soul, as we try to heal on all three levels for our victims. And the victims get to come for free and workout.”
Describing the service provided, Stewart stated “We also have mentoring program for youths, and we have counseling, and we have healthy eating classes. We also have domestic violence classes to help our victims realize what brought them into the conditions that are in, and to help them free themselves so that can be victorious.”
