The agenda for the Tuesday evening, June 16, 2015 Forney City Council meeting is packed with the business of those living in Forney, Texas. The official agenda consists of two presentations, eight consent items, three public hearings, four action items and the discussion and election of a new Mayor Pro-tem.
Approval of a new logo for the Ellen Brooks West Memorial Library, as well as final approval on site plans for Stonebridge Veterinary Hospital, the Benjamin Medical Plaza and the new Forney Fire Station #2 are just a few of the consent items scheduled to be finalized by the Council.
Three Public Hearings will be held. One to discuss and consider approval of an ordinance for a Conditional Use Permit for use of an Auto Dealer/Used Auto Sales to operate at 10600 East U S Hwy 80. And two more that pertain to the amenity center concept plan and plat for the Grayhawk Planned Development located on North F M 548.
Action Items that will be discussed and considered by the Council clearly indicate that changes in the manner in which City Hall operates may very well be underway.
In a rare display of government transparency, Forney City Manager Brian Brooks has officially listed under Action Items the need for the Council to “discuss and consider requirements for closed executive sessions as set out in the Open Meetings Act.”
Over the years the manner in which the Council has used the privacy afforded them within Executive Session, and specifically City Manager Brooks’ interpretation of the Open Meetings Act, has been questioned by many therefore this should be a truly interesting discussion.
